let's hear it for the video gaem!!!
Apr. 19th, 2026 09:59 pmnew tomolifeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaau actually i have some disorganised thoughts about current game and old game and reaction to it and completionist mentality and general gaming things.
you know undertale/deltarune are great games because it's a meta commentary on the completionist mindset in video games, which, you don't really see in gaming. drv3 was kodaka saying "danganronpa sucks actually and you're a bad person and cringe for still liking it" while toby fox is making a meta commentary by having you question the morality of completionism in video games without like... villainising the genre. just you. you're the villain. and it's great. the games don't punish you in a sense of "you're a bad person for doing this" but making you go "it's ok to not have every answer" (like, by being a completionist, you actively ruin the happy ending you've given the characters by seeking out the darker routes and godddddd i loveeeeee it). idk what toby fox has planned for deltarune in the end, but the Weird Route™ makes me feel scared for every character involved and it makes me love writing so much.
anyways, all this to say, PEOPLE SEEM SOOOO UPSET BY PEOPLE COMPLETIONMAXXING IN TOMOLIFE. they did this for acnh too (they have nothing else to get mad at, i guess). i don't really care? oh no, some rando's island is lvl 97 and the game's been out a few days only. call the police i guess. i keep seeing "these same people run games dry on day 1 then call it boring when you're only supposed to play lifesims for 10mins a day and then do something else". ok? so let them? it's their game. if they wanna lvlmaxx until there's nothing left in a week and then get mad about it later, let them. it's how they chose to spend time on it anyway. like personally for me, my island's considerably higher lvl'd than the streamers i'm watching play the game bcus i have MANY OCs and i like making them interact. interestingly, my living the dream island is getting as high lvl as my tomolife 3DS island. i think it's based on island quality of life? it's at 56 rn i think. in living the dream it's over 20+ lvl. i got to like... 1000 problems solved in the first month of playing in 2020 than vinny did, he barely had 100 problems solved and he played the game for 3 years (granted it was only under 2 hours every sunday? but still...) there's some stuff locked forever because nintendo shut down some support features years ago so i can't use spotpass which means a lot of items just will never exist to me i guess. unless i hack my 3DS but i'm stupid and will break it so no. it's really funny one of the only spotpass outfits you get that are limited is the schoolgirl outfits. interesting. basically i have no life.
and now i must answer a burning question i know you'll have for me, "tomolife was released in 2013 why were you only playing it in 2020?" i didn't have a 3DS until 2016 and at the time the only games i had were ACNL, ocarina of time, and corpse party. i had the demo to tomolife downloaded but i don't know actually. i watched vinny's series MANY times and i guess i felt there was no need for me to play it myself cus i thought i saw everything i needed to. but also in 2020 i decided to kill my ACNL town and revamp it bcus i HATED my character's face. i never played animal crossing before and i didn't know i'd need a guide on the first 2 seconds of the game and i needed to answer questions specifically or else i come out looking chopped. and i did. oh he was so UGLY.
short answer: so i hated my character's face, killed my town, and sold my villagers to nook for more money and i'm incredibly rich in the game and have a cuter face, but my town is so much more.............. dead. i feel like all the progress i did those 4 years just.... it felt Lonely. it wasn't my town anymore and it's still not. i didn't have acnh yet either so i didn't know what to do anymore. late 2020 i finally decided to play the demo for tomolife and it was a lot of fun! so i got the full version immediately and i played it everyday for hours and hours and i still play it from time to time, just not as much. SO YEAH THE NEW GAME IS FUN. i had some criticisms on the trailer and demo though.
i worried it would be just like acnh where all the effort went into making character customisation better while the gameplay itself wasn't as fun as the original. i can say it feels a Little watered down. the characters don't get as mad as they do in the original, like how in acnh, the characters are extremely cucked versions of what they were in acnl and even in acnl they were cucked from how VILE they were in the original animal crossing GC game. they still had bite to them at least. it made you wanna torture the characters you disliked but in acnh they just get depressed and took the fun out of bullying them. EKEKEKEKE. so far in living the dream, the characters are pretty fun, but they don't get as angry as fast. idk. maybe time will tell. i haven't seen EVERYTHING yet. whereas in 3DS tomolife, everytime you boot up the game, at least 6 bitches are fighting with each other. (i don't have many calming items yet so maybe it's a good thing they aren't as HOSTILE for now...)
I ALSOOOO worried about the island customisation itself too like oh great more acnh??? anch sucks so much because it's harder to make bells, they patched out the fun bell hacks, and i can't even do anything with my island except landscaping because i can't fucking afford to move buildings! tomolife said OK. IT'S FREE THEN. you still have to buy physical things like soda machines, benches, trees, but it's AFFORDABLE and moving buildings is FREE. so it's much more fun to customise imo. i dislike some of the music, it feels like royalty free youtube corpo slop sometimes. it looks like acnh in that it's a very Round game. i dislike the UI in current nintendo games because they're so round? idk how to explain it. borders are rounder, sometimes there ARE no borders. so far tho, these are my only real complaints.
i like that the music in the restaurant is the concert hall songs from 3DS tomolife, and in THAT game, the cafe music was the concert hall music from tomodachi collection (DS, JP only. we never got that in the US). i don't think there is a concert hall in this new game? maybe in an update or smth... idk. but it's a cute tradition that i like nonetheless. anyways it's as addicting as the original game and it's still a lifesim so you're bound to get bored of it in like a week but i like these games cus it gives me OC ideas. ehehehe. i'd enjoy the sims if like. i knew which version was the better one to play. ppl loved 3 and some like the hacks you can do with 4. i don't wanna deal with EA tbh. i don't want an origin account and allat to play a game... hated making just a 360 avatar even. LMAO. i did download sims 2 with the help of a friend, but i couldn't get it to be windowed mode for the life of me and it wouldn't run properly anyway so... rip to that.
anyways............... who cares if people are speedrunning the game just to get bored later. let them ruin the experience or whatever. it's not like undertale. there is no wrong way to play lifesims.

GAMING WOES
long answer: i am no gamer. i grew up on licensed nick and cartoon network games. games based on tv shows and movies THAT I STILL OWN TOO! i've never played a game i needed a guide for! i used see the manuals and throw that shit out. I DON'T NEED IT! fuckin nuts. i played guitar hero at random points in time, played gta on my uncle's ps2 for 5 minutes then watched my cousins play halo. i never played "real" video games. i'm still getting used to my controller because i've never had to use one of those before. the closest is using the circlepad on the 3DS LMFAO (i still call it a joystick because whatever) i felt so Powerful even using that. so. and even PC games were a hassle for me. the most i ever played on a PC were visual novels and... disneychannel.com games LOL. and i tried to play half-life for the first time many years ago and just couldn't understand keyboard controls. the most i used for keyboard was arrow keys for corpse party and visual novels. never needed anything more than that. i still don't have good coordination with my offbrand 360 controller because my hands are just stupid. i also got a ps4 controller recently to play totally legit ps2 games that i got on my totally legit ps2 because using a 360 controller for that is so fucking annoying and i wanted to remember the button patterns so instead of getting offbrand i just found a used one at the store one day. anyway i wasn't raised on "Real" games so i'm still trying to play thru the classiques like silent hill, MGS, and resident evil just to experience them for real but it woulda be much more different if i had been able to play them as a kid like everyone else. i played mortal kombat for the first time with my cousins and won a few rounds which was fun and shocking. i think the first "real" game i played was ocarina of time for 3DS which i only got because corpse party was getting a port and so far i only had a DS lite and i was told "the 3DS and DS are completely different software, that game won't run on a regular DS." i was like... wtf why??? stupid af.short answer: so i hated my character's face, killed my town, and sold my villagers to nook for more money and i'm incredibly rich in the game and have a cuter face, but my town is so much more.............. dead. i feel like all the progress i did those 4 years just.... it felt Lonely. it wasn't my town anymore and it's still not. i didn't have acnh yet either so i didn't know what to do anymore. late 2020 i finally decided to play the demo for tomolife and it was a lot of fun! so i got the full version immediately and i played it everyday for hours and hours and i still play it from time to time, just not as much.
